Seasonal vacation fun at The Windrifter Resort - Summer, Spring, Winter, Fall in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire

The Windrifter Resort

About the Resort > Four Seasons

The Windrifter Resort truly is a year-round destination, with something to offer everyone no matter the season or the weather.

“No matter when you visit or what you like to do, you can find relaxation and enjoyment during your Windrifter stay.”

Summer

With so much water nearby, it is no wonder that Summer is a popular time to visit and boat, swim, or just relax and soak up the sun’s rays. For a different view of the lake, take a boat ride either on many of the guided tours, or you can rent a boat from many of the local marinas that also offer short boating safety courses.

The lake is the obvious attraction, but there are so many things to do here that have nothing to do with water. Take a hike, ranging from a short walk up Abenaki Hill to climb the fire tower, to Mount Major’s open summit overlooking the lake’s western shore, to Presidential Range of the White Mountains. Tour one of Wolfeboro’s three museums or one of the oldest handmade pewter makers in the country. Golf, free concerts, Summer theatre, biking, cave tours, food festivals or star-gazing during the Perseid meteor showers. Day or night, there is something for everyone.

Autumn

For many of our guests, Autumn is their favorite season. The lake is still warm, and the beaches are quieter. Some of the lake’s best boating days are in September. If you sail, the September winds are more consistent and predictable. It is a great time for fishing too, as the fish seek the warm shallows. Explore Wolfeboro’s annual Scarecrow Festival full of food, games, crafts, and fun; you can take a hay ride or try your hand at pumpkin carving.

The warm days and cool nights bring out the reds and oranges in the maples along the shore, and each day brings a new palette of colors. New Hampshire’s unique geography and wide variety of trees combine to create our famous foliage, drawing visitors far and near to marvel at nature’s kaleidoscope.

Winter

A New England Winter brings its own opportunities, without even leaving Wolfeboro. Day and night skiing and boarding at Abenaki Ski Area, ice skating at the Pop Whalen Arena, cross country skiing at Sewall Woods, ice fishing, and snowmobiling are just a few. If you are looking for a bigger challenge, much of New England’s best downhill skiing and Winter hiking is a short drive away.

Show off your creative side in Wolfeboro’s Snow Sculpture Contest, just part of the week-long Winter Carnival. Everything from curling to human sled-dog races to fireworks, with lots of fun and food in between.

If you don’t like the cold then watch the flakes fall while you soak in our heated indoor pool, the only indoor pool in the area. Break a sweat in our Fitness Center or sauna, then relax by the fireplace with a good book or a good friend.

Spring

The days are getting longer and warmer, but early Spring still has plenty of snow. If you’ve ever skied in shorts and a t-shirt then you know why Spring skiing is so good.

March brings “ice out” on the lake, and those that can’t wait any longer are already boating and fishing. Spring is a great time to explore the area and get back outside.

The Spring is when the sap gets flowing in the maples, creating New Hampshire’s gold. Take a drive and explore one of the area’s sugar shacks and experience some fresh pure New Hampshire maple syrup or maple candy; there is nothing else like it.
